September 8, 1924 – July 13, 2014
William “Sam” Irwin passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at a Waco hospital. Sam was born September 8, 1924 in Kosse to Odie and Adrian Irwin. In 1933, Sam and his family moved to Marlin. He married Lottie Webb on April 22, 1943 in Marlin. Sam worked for Doyle Firestone, the Marlin Police Department, the Texas Department of Corrections, Oak Farms and Porterfield Construction.
After retiring, he raised birds and built bird houses, dog houses and rabbit hutches with his wife and mother. He was involved in the Marlin Little League where he coached and umpired for several years. In 1989 he was honored with the T-ball field being dedicated to him.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son Mikal Irwin as well as his sister, Amy Wesley.
Sam leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Gloria Lewis and husband Donald of Marlin and his sons, Danny Irwin and wife Mary of Temple and Sammy Irwin of Marlin; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
